The Railways of Taiwan

THE PING-HSI BRANCH INDEX

Movies
A Dae-woo built DMU approaches Shi-fen with the 1308 Rue-fang to Ching-tung on 01 May 2005. Note the two young girls leap sideways when they realise they are within shot! (39 sec)

Departing San-tiao-ling and traversing the junction to the Ping-hsi branch with the main line curving away to the left over the river and into the tunnel to Ilan. The line, then single track, follows the narrow twisting valley of the Keelung River 01 May 2005 (1 min 25 sec)

Between Ta-hua and Shi-fen, the railway is generally used by as a footpath, even though it includes a number of single bore tunnels! This extremely foolish behaviour is sadly typical and can be seen here (the morons by the tunnel mouth have actually brought their families through the tunnels!) Note the pair of idiots squashed up against the tunnel wall - the girl was clearly terrified. After the tunnel we pass on the right the turnstiles to a park only accessible from the railway formation along the unfenced pavement! - 01 May 2005 (1 min 13 sec)

Approaching Shi-fen down the High Street and into the station on 01 May 2005. Note the former sidings for the Hsin Ping-hsi mine trailing in from the right before the cutting shortly after the clip starts. (1 min 15 sec)

Arriving at the branch terminus at Ching-tung on 01 May 2005. The driver has to make an emergency brake actuation as some typically lunatic driver almost does a 3-point turn in front of us. The old coal loading hopper seen to the right of the station is from the former Shih-tih mine, whilst the track that originally continued to Ching-tung mine is now terminated by stop-blocks, buried deep in the undergrowth. (1 min 47 sec)
